Every Tuesday night from April through October a group of kayakers gather to go for a paddle and then return to shore to eat. This website is where you will find out where we are paddling.

Favorite Kayak Blogs

Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd share my favorite kayak blog and maybe others might like to contribute their favorites too. Although I moved away from Scotland 25 years ago, I never felt really homesick until I started following this blog which has fantastic pictures of kayaking around the west coast of Scotland, little snippets of history and other kayak trivia. Give it a try- and post some of your own.

RSVP for the Kayaker Jamboree

Please post a reply to RSVP for the Kayaker Jamboree.

No reservation or registration is required, but we are interested in knowing who might come.

This is a grass roots planned event. All it take is for someone to organize a pod of paddlers. It will be great to see how many and from how far people will come. You are welcome to organize a group of paddlers from your area to come down to the sound and paddle to Shea Island in the Norwalk Island chain. Please let us know you are coming.

Feel free to e-mail me if you want to discuss the Kayaker Jamboree more.

The Kayaker Jamboree will be the areas biggest kayaker meetup. This Jamboree is loosely organized. It is a grass roots effort to try to get the kayak community to converge for one weekend as a show of unity and good will. It is about kayaking and sharing time with other kayakers, not about selling boats, and gear, and stuff. As kayakers we have a lot to learn from each other and the only way we can learn is to come together. It is also a good time for us to give back to the environment by cleaning up Shea Island. On Sunday we will do an Island trash pick up to remove garbage and winter debris that washed ashore (please bring your own gloves and a heavy duty garbage bag). You do not need to be a member of a Meetup group to attend the Jamboree. Anyone can come. Any kayak club or group can come. We hope to see you the second weekend of August.

Bandana Dave

It is a sad day today as I learned that "Bandana Dave" Kendall passed away (unexpectedly) on Monday. Bandana Dave was a regular each and every Tuesday night. He was always very helpful, from unloading and loading fellow paddlers' boats to cleaning up after the picnics following the paddles. He enjoyed being out on the water with his kayaking friends. He would often be the last one back to the launch and about the time when we would start to worry, he'd show up. After putting his gear away he'd come for some food. Most of the summer he'd bring fresh vegetables, which I think he grew.

Dave was a friendly, talkative guy who was nice to have around. His friendly demeanor and laugh made many newcomers feel welcome. He will be missed by all and each Tuesday will be a little different without him.

Bandana Dave

As a newcomer to the TNP, Dave took me under his wing last year, from the very first paddle. Very often we would be coming in near dark but he always took a cautious approach and helped me avoid tricky situations as a novice. I wish I'd listened to him more before capsizing at Quannie... He was laughing about that for a while. I loved his passion for being out in the ocean and will miss his warmth and sense of fun. I'm really shocked and saddened to hear the news and will miss him a lot. Godspeed indeed.

Bandana Dave

I was so sorry and shocked to hear about Bandana Dave's passing. I could always count on him to give me a scare as he and whoever he was paddling with that night, were almost always the last ones in. I remember more than once when the sun was down and it was pitch black, I would do a mental accounting of everyone to make sure that everyone had made it back in. More than once I would think to myself, where the hell is Dave? Well happy moonlight paddling my friend. Godspeed.

........spirituality is far more than religious practice. It is a cast of mind, a leaning of the heart,
a willingness to see the shadow of the divine mystery in all people and all things. It is feeling the
presence of God in every encounter, and seeing the reflection of the divine in the face of every person
we meet..... Kent Nerburn

You made me laugh, I will miss you lov dor
