Show and Go

If you would like to propose a paddling trip, this is the place to do it. Registered users can post a trip using the "Comments" section below. Just because you are proposing a trip does not mean you need to be the "Leader", as usual with TNP trips there are no leaders, there are just other paddlers like you who want to paddle together. You all go together and determine what you are going to do by mutual consent. You can propose any trip you want, either from the existing launch sites, or some place you have been before or would just like to explore.

Kayakers Jamboree on the Norwalk Islands

2009 Kayakers Jamboree on the Norwalk Islands
Second Weekend in August 2009

Kayakers from all over Connecticut and lower NY and beyond are invited to come for a weekend long celebration of sea-kayaking in Long Island Sound. Paddle over for the day on either Saturday or Sunday, or Camp over night on Shea Island Friday and or Saturday.

This Jamboree is loosely organized. It is a grass roots effort to try to get the kayak community to converge for one weekend as a show of unity and good will. It is about kayaking and sharing time with other kayakers, not about selling boats, and gear, and stuff. As kayakers we have a lot to learn from each other and the only way we can learn is to come together. It is also a good time for us to give back to the environment by cleaning up Shea Island. On Sunday Aug. 9 we will do an Island trash pick up to remove garbage and winter debris that washed ashore (please bring your own gloves and a heavy duty garbage bag)

Planning for the Jamboree is still in progress. For more information go to The Stamford Kayaking Meetup Group message board:
http://www.meetup.com/StamfordKayakGroup/boards/thread/6143405/

Individuals and groups are welcome to attend. Plan for your own group, plan to be environmentally sensitive, and plan to “leave no trace”.

The SKG will reserve campsites on Shea Island. We ask that you sign in when you visit the Island. We will collect voluntary contributions of $2 for day paddlers, and $5 for overnight campers. We may also arrange for environmental speakers and kayak skill workshops leaders that each may collect voluntary contributions. Details are still in the works.

For more information regarding Norwalk Islands Canoe/Kayak Trail from
Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk, Connecticut go to http://www.swrpa.org/pdf_files/canoeguidewebversion.pdf

SKG is not a club, we are a loosely organized group of kayakers that meet to paddle. Please read our Disclaimer http://www.meetup.com/StamfordKayakGroup/messages/boards/thread/3398196 Individuals are responsible for there own safety and actions.
